Description:
Designed and constructed traffic and access control improvements to the main gate of the Naval Medical Center to meet Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) requirements and improve traffic flow without compromising security and safety.
Submitted 30%, 100%, and Final design packages.
Installed an active barrier system including controls and appurtenances for inbound and outbound lanes.
Removed the existing median curb and widened the road to accommodate the required width for a new Pass Issue/Vehicle Inspection Lane. Also provided a truck inspection lane.
Installed electric traffic control arms, speed humps, concrete bollards, LED overhead and ground-mounted signage, an electronic over-speed detection and warning system, and supporting electrical utilities.
Implemented a construction phasing plan that ensured at least one lane was open in both directions during construction.
Project personnel worked on a rolling schedule, including nights and early daytime hours, in order to maximize traffic flow during the construction period.
