Design-Build Courtroom Renovation, NBSD, San Diego, CA
Delivery Type: Design-Build
Contract Value: $2,906,237
Size: 18,000 sq. ft.
Description:
Design-build renovations to approximately 18,000 sq. ft. of a two-story historic structure occupied by three Navy Commands: Regional Legal Services Office (RLSO), Navy Legal Services Office (NLSO), and Personnel Support Activity Detachment Department (PSD).
Primary purpose was to establish a physical separation of spaces between judicial and non-judicial activities.
Existing legal office and administrative spaces were reconfigured and a 3-panel court martial hearing room and judge’s chambers were constructed.
ADA‐compliant entrance upgrades were performed while preserving historic features of the building’s exterior. Required approval from the State Office of Historic Preservation.
Incorporated a 9-phase strategy. Continued access and operational integrity of adjacent courtroom was required while project construction was underway.
Removed, reconfigured, and painted existing interior walls; installed controlled access points; repaired flooring, ceiling, doors, and windows; repaired MEP and lighting systems; and reconfigured the fire sprinkler system.
DDCs met the stringent requirements of NAVFAC’s Area-Wide Energy Management System (AWEMS) Specifications.
