Description: This project required conversion of an existing science classroom into a new graduate research suite that includes two laboratories and an entrance hall, while the building remained in full operation. The new laboratory was approximately 1,200 sq. ft. and was located on the second floor of a three-story building. Key features:
Each lab received fume hoods and new laboratory exhaust systems as well as laboratory gas, DI water, compressed air, industrial hot water, industrial cold water, and domestic water utilities.
Existing fire sprinkler and fire alarm system was modified to accommodate the new layout and was approved by the State Fire Marshall.
Laboratories received new cabinets and epoxy resin counter tops, laboratory flooring, recessed emergency eyewash stations, and floor drains.
New Phoenix exhaust and supply air controls and AirCuity air monitoring system were installed to integrate into the existing building’s EMCS and air monitoring systems.
Required close coordination with University representatives, coordinating construction activities with different classroom occupancies/vacancies.
